Motorists in Maldon are now paying up to 182.9 pence per litre for unleaded petrol, although prices are still lower than elsewhere in the country.

Nub News visited Maldon's two petrol stations this morning (June 9), to see how their prices have been affected amid rising fuel costs.

At Morrisons in Limebrook Way, petrol costs 180.9p per litre, while diesel costs 186.9p per litre.

However, at Tesco Extra on Fullbridge, unleaded petrol costs 182.9p per litre, while diesel costs 192.9p per litre.

In Witham, petrol costs 185.9p per litre at the Co-op, and 184.9p per litre at Gulf, Witham Service Station.

One of the cheapest places Nub News has seen is at Asda Petrol Filling Station in South Woodham Ferrers, where petrol costs 172.7 pence per litre, according to Petrol Prices.

RAC fuel spokesperson Simon Williams said: "Drivers need to brace themselves for average fuel prices rocketing to £2 a litre which would mean a fill-up would rise to an unbelievable £110."

So far, soaring fuel prices have caused the cost of filling an average family car to reach more than £100 for the first time, as the cost of living crisis continues to put a strain on many families.

Last Tuesday saw the biggest daily jump in petrol prices in 17 years, rising by more than 2p a litre.

Speaking about the cost of living crisis in Blackpool this afternoon, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he hoped corporations will be 'responsible' and 'look after' their consumers.
