Historic retailer WH Smith has announced it will close a further 17 of its high street stores in early 2025.

Since 2010, WH Smith has closed 12% of its high street units, but for now, it seems the Maldon High Street store is set to remain open. 

After announcing the sale of its stores, a spokesperson for the retailer said: "WH Smith confirms that it is exploring potential strategic options for this profitable and cash-generative part of the group, including a possible sale."

"There can be no certainty that any agreement will be reached, and further updates will be provided as and when appropriate."

The only affected store in Essex is the WH Smith in Halstead.
