Maldon is all lit up at spectacular event

THOUSANDS of people came to the annual Light Up Maldon Christmas event on Thursday, 27 November and the event was declared a huge success!

Town Mayor Cllr John Driver, Deputy Town Mayor Cllr James Burrell-Cook, and students from All Saints Primary School and Plume Academy switched on the new Town Christmas lights from the Moot Hall Balcony.

Some of the High Street shops expanded their presence with stalls outside their premises. They were joined by food and drink stalls, community groups, craft stalls and local charities lining the High Street.

There were indoor markets at the Town Hall, Maeldune Heritage Centre, All Saints' Church and Moot Hall.

Entertainment on the main stage included The Big Sing and headline acts Mars Garden, and Adrian Warwick. Rick Crawford performed at the Mighty Oak Tap Room.

School choirs and Maldon Youth Orchestra held performed at the Cygnet Room kindly provided by the Swan Hotel, and Maldon Community SDA Choir were located at the top of the High Street.

Street entertainment was provided by Maldon Green Jackets & Dark Horse Morris Dancers, Salvation Army Band, and Mains 'l Haul Shanty Crew Singers

There were characters including Peppa Pig and Olaf from Frozen to meet and greet the children.

Aladdin characters,'Allo, 'Allo 2! (René and Edith) and The Maldon Grinch also made appearances on the evening.

Cllr Driver said: "Thank you to everyone who made the evening so magical and helped Maldon come alive!

"It was great to see so many people attend and join the festivities. Thank you to the High Street businesses who opened late and decorated their shop windows, especially those who sponsored the event.

"These included platinum sponsors: Heybridge Dental Practice; Maldon Salt; Mrs Salisbury's; Salt, and Templeman Opticians and gold sponsors: Edwards Walk, House of Delight, Pocknells Wealth Management, and Wickham Flooring.

"Thank you to the stallholders who took part; those who provided entertainment, volunteers, Caroline Coastal FM radio, and suppliers.

"On behalf of Maldon Town Council, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year."
