Officers responding to reports of thefts from the gardens of people's homes in Maldon have made an arrest.

A 43-year-old man from Maldon was brought into custody yesterday to be questioned on suspicion of theft and theft from a shop.

The incidents occurred in Mill Road, Wantz Road, and Station Road on 16 and 22 April.

On two occasions items were taken from outside private addresses.

Having studied CCTV, officers identified the suspect.

Inspector Emily Holmes, from the Maldon Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "We know there has concern in the community around thefts from outside homes of residents.

"We have responded to these concerns and have been able to identify a suspect who is now in custody.

"It matters to you and we value our neighbourhoods, so it matters to us."
