The Maldon Mud Race held a Presentation Evening last week at Plume Academy to distribute the funds raised from the 2024 event.

The Maldon Mud Race held a cheque presentation and sponsor meet-up event at Plume School on November 7.

The small team of volunteers who deliver the Race and other associated events in Maldon invited many local charities, along with local potential and regular sponsors, to get together and hear some of the charities speak about their work.

The Maldon Mud Race distributed cheques totalling more than £28,000.

Chairman of the Mud Race, Brian Farrington, said, "We get together with sponsors and charities once a year to find out the latest about the charities and to issue funds.

"t's an interesting an enjoyable evening for us all and to meet the teams dealing with many difficult issues on a daily basis is very humbling and inspiring and we are thrilled to be able to help them in the work."

Maldon Mud Race attracts over 15,000 people to Promenade Park each year, with 300 fund-raising entrants challenged to racing across the bank of the river Blackwater.

Beneficiaries of the funds included:

  • Essex Wildlife
  • Tim Bowdidge Foundation

"The Race costs over £30,000 to deliver and we are working towards covering these costs with sponsorship so that we can give away an ever larger percentage of funds raised.

"We are so grateful to companies like PGR Timber, TFP Financial Planning, First Bus, Borough Carpets and Events Factor and we hope many more will come on board in 2025. We are grateful to Plume Academy for their support, both in running and raising funds this year and allowing us to use their premises for this event."
