Maldon Rotary Club has brought a new meaning to the word 'recycling' after donating more than 60 second-hand bikes to Africa.

Following a talk from Colchester-based charity Re-Cycle, one of the Maldon Rotarians offered to collect unwanted bicycles - and they are now looking for more.

Cycles are reconditioned at the charity's premises before being sent to Africa to begin a new life there.

A spokesperson for Maldon Rotary Club said: If you have a bike that you no longer need, please take it along to the Tavern Car Wash, Tavern Garage site on Maldon 's Causeway where it will be gratefully received.

"Since that talk, over 60 bicycles from the Maldon area have been despatched to places in Africa really making a difference to people's lives."

You can find more details of the charity's work on the Re-Cycle website using the link here.
