Farleigh Hospice is set to bring a new family-friendly fundraising event to Maldon's Promenade Park on Sunday 9 July.

Splash Out! is a wet and wild five-kilometre outdoor obstacle course. Participants will slip and slide around two laps, taking on a total of ten water-based obstacles. These include floating stepping-stones, a giant dodgeball, and an eight-metre pit full of floating balls.

It is open to adults and children aged 4 and over.

The money raised from Splash Out! will help Farleigh Hospice continue providing award-winning care, free of charge, to people affected by life-limiting illnesses and bereavement in Maldon and across mid Essex.

The 1st Maldon Merlin Scouts group has already signed up. 14 scouts will be taking part, along with Leader Kate Hoddy and Assistant Leader Simon Gray. They will ask friends and family to sponsor them to raise money for Farleigh and to help each Scout earn their fundraising badge.

Kate said: "Farleigh Hospice is very close to my heart. 14 years ago, they looked after my mum in her last days, and everyone was amazing. It made such a difference to my family at such an incredibly hard time.

"Scouts is now a big part of my life. They're brilliant - always wanting new challenges and experiences.

"So, what a fantastic idea to bring this all together at Splash Out! - and have the scouts raise funds for Farleigh while having such a brilliant experience."

Farleigh Hospice says it is grateful for the Scouts' support, along with event sponsor Chandler Materials of Chelmsford.

Fundraising Manager Debbie de Boltz said, "Farleigh is facing a growing demand for our services. We want to be there to help everyone with a life-limiting illness to live as actively as possible from their diagnosis to the end of their life and to also support their family and carers."

It will cost £23 for adults and £12 for children aged between 4 and 15 to take part in Splash Out!. Entrants will receive a Farleigh Hospice t-shirt and a finisher's medal. All children under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult.

Meanwhile, Maldon Scouts is looking for adult volunteer helpers. For more information, get in touch via email.
