Maldon Town Council celebrate one of the “most attended” Christmas Fayres in a decade
The Maldon Christmas Fayre last week (Thursday 30) was attended by hundreds of locals and brought trade to a huge number of food stalls, entertaineners and shops.
Maldon Mayor and Town Councillor Andrew Lay said: "It was wonderful to see so many residents and visitors enjoying the High Street on a crisp winter evening - thankfully rain free!
"It was great to have the Head Boy and Head Girl of St Francis school and Maldon Primary School switch on the town's Christmas lights."
He added, "With the Deputy Mayor, Cllr Martin Harvey, I walked the high street and the feedback from the people we met was very positive with people enjoying the entertainment, stalls and shops, especially after the recent years where community events like this were not possible.
"I would like to thank all the people involved in organising the event for their hard work in making this event a success."
The annual event not only hosted a bustling local market but included a packed entertainment schedule, including a Santa's grotto, a Christmas light switch-on broadcasted by BBC Essex, a choir and a DJ.
This year's event was bound to be busy after heavy downpours impacted the Fayre's attendance last year.
Cllr Michael Pearlman said: "This was my eighth year of being the chairman and organiser and by far it was the most attended.
"I have had great feedback from several businesses/residents and the entertainers along with BBC Essex Radio, all saying what an excellent day.
"My thanks goes out to all the people that help me put this event together, along with the many sponsors."
