Maldon Town Council (MTC) has voted to recommend approval of alterations to the Tesco in Fullbridge.

Members of MTC's planning committee unanimously reached the decision last night (Monday, 23 August).

The plans involve the installation of a click and collect pod, a ramp to the rear of the store and a Timpsons Dry Cleaners pod.

Councillors said that the alterations would enable the store to run more efficiently, but raised concerns about the impact of additional works on its appearance.

Councillor Mark Heard said: "I think the ramp at the back will make it more efficient."

He added: "My concern is that the overall design of the Tesco was meant to be that of a used railway shed."

Councillor Flo Shaughnessy said: "We do need to maybe be careful in the future."

Councillor Heard added: "I think because [the Timpsons pod] is away from the building I am OK with it.

"I'm happy to support this, but I will keep my eye on advertising signs."

Councillor Michael Pearlman proposed to recommend approval of the alterations, which was seconded by Councillor Heard and voted through unanimously.

Maldon District Council (MDC) will make the final decision.
