Maldon Wick: autumnal walks for the second national lockdown

Throughout this second national lockdown, Maldon Nub News will feature occasional articles on local or nearby beauty spots and places to take some outdoor exercise - in the hope of bringing you some fresh inspiration.

Maldon Wick Nature Reserve

The Essex Wildlife Trust nature reserve at Maldon Wick in Limebrook Way, Maldon, remains open to the public - and in places has quite a magical quality with woodland, a large pond and all sorts of wildlife to spot.

Visitors to the site can walk along the former Maldon to Woodham Ferrers railway line and admire the enchanted woodland either side, where rare butterflies can often be spotted in the summer months. However, there are plenty of birds and woodland creatures throughout the seasons and in autumn the leaf colours are quite spectacular. It should be noted that the footpath is flanked by steep banks and is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs.

A large, deep pond close to the entrance of the site boasts impressive reeds, water lilies and also provides habitat for wildlife.

There is no parking at the site and visitors are advised to use the Morrison's store car park and then use the pedestrian crossing to enter the reserve opposite.
