ONE of Maldon's beloved Dunkirk veteran boats, Pudge, will be putting on a special show at the weekend.

The Thames Sailing Barge Trust is holding a "come and meet us" event on Sunday (13 September) at Chandler's Quay, Fullbridge. The event is part of the town's September Heritage Trail Weekend.

Experts from the trust will be on hand to tell visitors about the history of Pudge and explaining the work being undertaken as part of her restoration.

The beautiful red-sailed barge is famed for rescuing survivors after a group of barges and a tug were hit by German air attacks off the beaches at Dunkirk.

In the words of her skipper at the time of the incident, when Pudge was lifted out of the water in the attack she "came down the right way up".

There will be a display and small sale stand and open between 11am and 4pm. There is no parking at the quay and visitors are advised to use one of the many car parks nearby.

In a Maldon Nub News story last Friday, many of the other historic sites taking part in the heritage weekend were listed. The article can be found here.

Covid-19 prevention and safety guidelines will be observed at all events.
