The following report is from Plume Academy's PE Faculty on the end of summer term Festival of Sport. Despite the difficulties of the past 18 months and the challenges of school life in that context, an incredible 95 per cent of the school's pupils took part.

The ultimate sports week, jam-packed full of sporting activities, fun and competition. What better way to end the summer term than with a Festival of Sport?!

During the week beginning Monday, 5 July, all Years 7-10 students were off timetable for a day to take part in a variety of sports, which then culminated in two separate Sports Days on each academy site on the Friday. Students represented their form in two (out of a total of eight) different sports competitions: Badminton, Netball, Dodgeball, Football, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Ultimate Frisbee and Rounders. Their final position at the end of the competition equated to points for the form to determine the overall Festival of Sport Champions for each Year group.

EVERYONE was encouraged, regardless of ability or experience, to get involved in this amazing sports extravaganza and students certainly responded in an exceptional way. At least 95 per cent of each year group took part. The conduct and effort shown by our students was impeccable. It was wonderful to see students working together in teams, creating an outstanding atmosphere of supporting peers, friendly competition and enjoyment and smiles all-round - something lockdown stopped people doing.

There were some stand out performances and school records broken. Special mention should go to Hana Hunt who broke the 300m school record, only to be beaten in the next heat by Sophia Gavrilovic. Well done to you both. Oliver Aran-Garriock also wowed the crowd with a phenomenal high jump performance.

Ultimately the week was about bringing people together through sport. Thank you to students for fully embracing the opportunities offered, and to staff for giving up their time to help support and marshal different events.
