The grandmother of Liam Taylor, who was murdered outside a pub in Writtle last year, has bought eight bleed kits to save lives in her grandson's name.

Liam, known as 'Fish' to his family, was just 19 years old when he was stabbed to death outside the Rose and Crown pub in Writtle on 31 January 2020.

His family has since set up the Liam Taylor Legacy Fund to buy bleed kits and defibrillators for schools and community groups, to save the lives of people in need of urgent care.

Julie Taylor, Liam's grandmother who runs the café at St Peter's Hospital in Maldon, bought eight bleed kits through the fund on Wednesday (13 October).

She said that the kits would now "go into the community to help save others in our angels' memories".

She has got two bleed kits in Maldon already.

Bleed kits can provide immediate intervention to stop people from bleeding to death before paramedics arrive on the scene of an incident.

Julie said: "If you are stabbed, the first people on scene have to be police to make sure the area is safe for the ambulance service to attend - we all know how long an ambulance can take to arrive and these first few minutes are crucial.

"They can literally be life-saving minutes.

"I feel that every shop, school and business should have one of these kits.

"They are just under £100 - to save a life, that's not expensive."

Julie also thanked CJ Renzo from Binning Knives Saves Lives and Lynne Mcleod-Finch-Baird, founder of the Daniel Baird Foundation Charity, for helping her to buy the kits.

"I'm determined to get these out and about in the community," she added.

"Please help me fundraise to make this possible."

To raise more money for the fund, Julie is now organising a curry night on Thursday 28 October at St Peter's café, where guests will enjoy a two-course meal.

The evening costs £25 per person, and £12.50 from each booking will go towards the fund to buy more bleed kits.
