A man was detained by police yesterday at Maldon Promenade Park after welfare concerns.

Police received a call with concerns for a man's welfare shortly before 6.45pm, September 1.

Passers-by reported seeing a man entering the River Blackwater opposite the Model Boating Lake.

At least three police cars and a fire engine attended the scene.

Police officers detained the man, and he was taken to hospital for medical assistance.

Police have thanked members of the public who helped in this incident.
