A Mum is selling paintings of Maldon High Street to raise money for a charity which helped her daughter after she was run over last year.

Leanne Barrett's now three-year-old daughter Violet suffered a broken pelvis, amongst other injuries, when she was run over on 1 September 2020.

She was airlifted to the Royal London Hospital by the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance Trust (EHAAT).

"It was the most scared I've been in my whole life - at this time, we didn't know what or how serious her injuries might be," Leanne said.

"We got to triage and there were so many doctors and nurses waiting just to treat Violet.

"The realisation hit me instantly: I might lose my child."

After spending some time being assessed in A&E, Violet was taken to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

"I stayed by her bed all night, praying she would make it through," Leanne said.

When Violet had to stay in the ICU for the following two nights, the Sick Children's Trust stepped in.

The charity provides families with children in hospital with a place to stay, free of charge, minutes from their child's bedside.

The trust arranged for Violet's family to stay in a room in one of their boarding homes, just a short walk from the hospital in which Violet was staying.

Leanne said: "I was able to sleep, shower and have a small bit of normality.

"The home had everything there to make you feel as comfortable as possible, including a kitchen, reading room and playroom."

Once Violet was able to be transferred to the children's ward, Leanne could stay with her overnight, while her husband could use the trust's room for as long as the family needed.

Violet returned home on 9 September, following a successful operation to pin her pelvis back together.

One year on, Leanne says she is "fit, strong and well with a small scar" after receiving the "best treatment" from staff at the hospital.

She added: "We can't thank all the charities and organisations that have helped our family this year enough.

"This experience has been life-changing for the whole family, and has brought us all so much closer."

To raise money for EHAAT and the Sick Children's Trust so that they can help more people in their time of need, Leanne is selling prints of Maldon High Street, which she painted this year.

All proceeds from the prints will go to the charities mentioned.

The prints cost £25 each, including postage, and are protected in a cellophane pocket with a cardboard back.

They are also for sale at Tom's Farm Shop and Braxted Farm Shop on Maldon Road in Tiptree.
