MALDON Town Council has welcomed Cllr Holly Fry to the authority as new representative for South Ward.

Cllr Fry joins Cllr Anne Beale, who was recently elected to represent North Ward following a by-election.

At an extraordinary meeting held on Wednesday, 5 August, the Town Council co-opted one new councillor to fill the vacancy in South Ward.

Candidates were invited to put their case to councillors before the council voted to appoint its preferred candidate.

Following a majority vote, Cllr Fry was co-opted and made her Declaration of Acceptance of Office at the meeting, taking up the role with immediate effect.

Maldon Town Mayor, Cllr James Burrell-Cook, said:"I would like to congratulate and warmly welcome our two new councillors, Cllr Anne Beale and Cllr Holly Fry, to Maldon Town Council. We look forward to working with them as they represent the interests of our community.

"I would also like to thank all of the candidates who put themselves forward for the South Ward vacancy. Their willingness to serve demonstrates a genuine commitment to the future of Maldon, and we greatly appreciate the time, enthusiasm and dedication shown by everyone who applied."

Cllr Fry said: "I am thrilled to be joining Maldon Town Council, and looking forward to working with residents and fellow councillors to support our community and contribute to the future of our town."

Cllr Beale said: "I was born in Maldon and the North Ward is close to where I live. I'm delighted to be representing the community and working to ensure we have the right housing, the infrastructure to support it, and more opportunities and facilities for our young people."

Both councillors will serve the residents of Maldon until the next normal Town Council elections in 2027.
