POLICE have arrested a man in his 30s in connection with a serious assault in Maldon on Sunday.

Officers were called to St Mary's Lane shortly before 6.50pm on Sunday 16 August, where a man was found with a significant head injury.

He remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police quickly launched an investigation and continue to pursue several lines of enquiry, and on Monday evening arrested a 38-year-old man from South Woodham Ferrers on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

Police said: "He remains in custody. We believe this was a targeted incident and there is no information at this time to suggest any wider threat to the community.

"Officers remain in the area carrying out enquiries and providing reassurance patrols."
