Brand-new play equipment is set to be built in Maldon Promenade Park and Burnham's Riverside Park this Autumn.

The play equipment in Maldon Promenade Park will replace the Valley's existing Galleon Pirate Ship and associated play areas, and provide a modern and inclusive update.

The major transformation, part-funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, was approved in May after the Galleon ship was decided to have "reached the end of its design life".

The new bespoke design by KOMPAN features a similar pirate ship to the Galleon and an adjoining lighthouse.

Plans show several activity features, including a hammock, track ride, fireman's pole and climbing wall.

There will also be a new sensory garden play area in Promenade Park, including a smaller set of equipment.

Both works are scheduled to start during September, with work expected to be finished by the end of October.

Maldon's not the only area benefitting from the Shared Prosperity Fund, with Burnham's Riverside Park also seeing a brand new play site.

The new play equipment is set to provide a modern and inclusive play area for Burnham-on-Crouch residents and visitors, in addition to the play site alongside the Dengie Hundred Sports Centre.

Works will begin at the end of August and are expected to be finished by the end of September.

A spokesperson from Maldon District Council said: "This project is a testament to our commitment to nurturing our parks and open spaces, ensuring they remain places where imagination and play continue to thrive."
