A planning application to replace Maldon Promenade Park's iconic 'Galleon' play equipment has been approved this week.

The proposal, received by Maldon District Council in March, is set to be an "updated replacement" of the existing ship.

The plans detail that the existing Galleon ship has "reached the end of its design life".

The new bespoke design features a similar pirate ship to the Galleon but with the key addition of an adjoining lighthouse.

The equipment has several activity features, including a hammock, track ride, fireman's pole, and climbing walls.

Both the ship and the lighthouse will feature two slides respectively.

There will be sea-themed design features, including a seagull and sea-side graphics, fitting in with the rest of the beach-themed valley.

The new structure would have a maximum height to the top of the mast of 6.6 metres, taller than the existing Galleon Ship.

The new play equipment will sit in the same spot as the existing ship, alongside the Splash Pad and beach huts.

You can find the design plans, here.
