Maldon Splash Park has delayed opening this weekend after reporting an "unforeseen technical issue".

The popular splash pad in Promenade Park was set to open for the first time this year on Saturday (May 25), but announced on Thursday that this would be delayed until further notice.

In a message on Facebook, a spokesperson for the Splash Park said: "Due to an unforeseen technical issue, the opening of Maldon Splash Park will be delayed until further notice.

"For customers who have already purchased tickets, a member of our team will be in contact to ensure you are reimbursed.

"We will continue to update you and will communicate a date for opening once this issue has been resolved.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience during this time."

The news has been met with criticism by disappointed residents.

The Splash Park underwent a £150k refurbishment in 2022, with the new park opening again to the public in 2023.
