New project launches to connect rural communities across the Maldon district
A new scheme has launched to bring residents together across the Maldon district, in efforts to tackle isolation in local rural communities.
Maldon and District Community Voluntary Service (CVS) is being supported by Cadent, the UK's largest gas distribution network, to offer fortnightly drop-in sessions in local venues across the Dengie so residents can enjoy a friendly chat with each other over a complimentary tea or coffee.
The scheme, called Centres for Warmth, will also enable attendees of the sessions to access information and advice while being signposted to local services.
Sarah Troop, director of Maldon and District CVS, said: "This project builds on the great community spirit seen during the pandemic by creating hubs in central community locations throughout Dengie villages.
"People can visit to find out about local services and activities but also to meet others living in the community and make new friends."
The sessions are being held fortnightly at the following locations:
- Althorne: The Three Horseshoes, Wednesdays, 12pm - 2pm
- Burnham-on-Crouch: Bistro on the Quay, Thursdays, 10am - 12pm
- Latchingdon: Holly's Diner, Thursdays, 11am - 1pm
- Southminster: Bits and Bobs Tea Room, Mondays, 10am - 12pm
