In an interview earlier this month, British Army oil painter Hugh Beattie told Maldon Nub News how he will be bringing an exhibition of his work featuring Ancient Essex to the Maeldune Centre in July - and now we can reveal that more of Hugh's paintings depicting the county can be seen on his website, including an incredible painting of 'Maldon at 300ft'.

There are also oil paintings of many other areas of Essex, including Colchester, the River Colne and St Osyth's Creek, among others.

The exhibition will feature other paintings of Maldon and Essex in the artist's unique style - as can be seen in the painting above.

Hugh told Maldon Nub News: "Essex has an incredible history and I want to capture a sense of that.

"Arriving in Maldon is like walking straight back to the great days of sail, the paint may not always be fresh, but the palpable history is unbelievable.

Hugh's exhibition at the Maeldune Centre, on the corner of Market Hill and the High Street, is called 'Ancient Essex: An Oil Painting Exhibition of Essex Architecture in their Landscape' and will run from 7 to 27 July.

Hugh has set up a studio in Eight Ash Green, and his website - including the painting of Maldon and other Essex works - can be found via the link here.
