The Covid-19 infection rate for Maldon district has almost halved again in seven days, according to the latest Public Health England data - dropping to well below 100 cases per 100,000 population.

In the seven days leading up to Sunday, 14 February there was a total of 48 new cases recorded in the Maldon district. This is equal to an infection rate of 74 per cases per 100,000 population.

In the week to Sunday, 7 February, the figures showed 88 new cases and an infection rate of 135.5 per 100,000.

The national average infection rate currently stood at around 121 cases per 100,00 as of 13 February. The Essex county area as a whole on 14 February recorded a rate of 100.1 cases per 100,000.

However, sadder news is that there has now been a total of 133 Covid-19 related deaths recorded for Maldon district since the start of the pandemic last March. This figure stood at 35 deaths until the start of the 'second wave' of infections in October.
