There was a strong sense of feeling from Burnham residents last Friday (August 18) as hundreds turned out to debate the future of the town's surgery.

Outraged by rumours the Burnham Surgery could be relocating to the outskirts of town, following an email shared by a Maldon District Councillor, nearly 450 residents went face-to-face with developers and NHS representatives.

Dan Doherty, an NHS Alliance Director for the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care Board (ICB), told residents: "The ICB has made no decision to relocate Burnham surgery, nor has it received a proposal to relocate the surgery to Burnham Waters or anywhere else."

However, he added that Burnham Surgery has "just shy of 10,000 patients", which could grow to 14,000 if left unrestricted.

"There isn't a surgery in Essex that doesn't want more space," he said.
