A Maldon school is set to welcome hundreds of visitors this week to its first large-scale careers fair in two years.

Plume Academy, on Fambridge Road, will welcome around 60 organisations on Thursday (17 March) to showcase educational and employment opportunities available to students - from universities to local vets.

It follows National Careers Week, which ran from 7 to 12 March this year and aims to support young people as they leave education and move on to employment.

The week saw teaching staff at Plume promoting the relevance of their subjects by linking curriculum learning to future careers.

Ms Beth Meltzer, careers lead at Plume, said: "I am delighted to have had conversations with several members of staff who have felt inspired to further embed careers in the curriculum, following discussions created because of National Careers Week and the rich promotional resources available to all subject areas."

The school is now preparing to welcome upwards of 1000 visitors to its careers fair, which aims to provide detailed insight into the career options available to Year 11 and Year 13 students.

A range of local organisations will be in attendance, including Potters Resort Five Lakes, Maldon District Council, Edgewood Veterinary Group and the Maldon branch of Helping Hands.

Higher education institutions also set to hold exhibitions at the event include Colchester Institute, Canterbury Christ Church University, London School of Economics and Political Science and the University of Oxford.

A spokesperson for Plume said: "The academy is extremely excited to be able to provide this fantastic opportunity for the local community.

"Students, parents, and carers will be able to meet face-to-face with a wide variety of enthusiastic exhibitors to discuss their options and next steps."

The fair will take place from 6pm to 8pm on Thursday, 17 March.
