Police arrest man found with suspected drugs and weapon in Maldon Town Centre

The Maldon Town Police Team arrested and charged a man last Friday (July 19) after finding him in possession of a knife and a suspected Class A drug.

Simon Gayfer, 29, of no fixed abode, has been charged with possessing a bladed article and possession of a Class A drug, appearing to be cocaine.

The arrest during after a routine patrol of the Town centre when officers spotted a vehicle of interest.

The vehicle, an Audi, was quickly stopped in Hythe Quay, with the driver then detained and placed in handcuffs.

A knife was located in the vehicle, and he was arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article. 

When searched, what appeared to be Class A drugs were also found, and he was further arrested on suspicion of possessing a Class A drug. 

Gayfer has been released on bail and is set to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates Court on August 9, 2024.
