Police are asking any drivers with information on bricks being thrown at vehicles on a mid-Essex stretch of the A12 to come forward.

The appeal comes after a man and his six-year-old son, who were travelling in a Citroen van northbound near Rivenhall End, had a lucky escape when the windscreen was smashed by a brick. It is believed the brick was thrown from a bridge at 4.25pm on Monday, 25 January.

Essex Police are now looking to trace drivers who may have dash cam footage of the incident. They are also asking anyone who has something similar happen to them to call 999 as soon as possible when it happens.

Sergeant Matthew Green said: "The windscreen was smashed but thankfully the father and son were not hurt.

"Whoever did this was completely reckless as this could so easily have led to serious injuries or even worse."

Anyone who was in the area at the time and saw what happened, or has dash cam footage, is asked to contact the Braintree Local Policing Team quoting reference 42/13779/21.

You can also submit a report online via the link here or use the 'Live Chat' button to speak to an online operator between 7am-11pm. Alternatively, you can call 101.

Information can also be given to independent charity Crimestoppers 100 per cent anonymously on 0800 555 111 or through the link here.
