Popular Maldon pub to close for five-month refurb

A pub in Maldon has announced it will close its doors temporarily for a major refurbishment.
The Queen Victoria on Spital Road will close from May 27 and plans to welcome patrons back on November 2, 2025.
The five-month refurbishment will see the pub transformed with an extension, new toilets, baby changing stations and a revamped back-of-house area.
Although the pub is stepping back temporarily from the Maldon social scene, the QV team say they will be keeping busy with a new venture.
James, Paul, and their Team, will be at the Maldon Smokehouse during this period as the new owners, and they invite patrons to keep an eye on the pub's website and social media for updates and information as the process unfolds.
"We're incredibly excited about what's to come," said James.
"It's a big step forward for us, and we're grateful for the support of our loyal customers and Gray & Sons as we take this leap."
The project marks a substantial investment in Maldon by Gray & Sons (Chelmsford Ltd), collaborating with James and Paul from Good Karma Public Houses Ltd, the pub's current tenants.
The refurbishment contract has been awarded to a local construction firm, Ivy Build.
The team will be contacting customers who have bookings over the next five months and are affected by these changes.
All existing bookings for November and December will be honoured.
