Rehearsals underway for Maldon Drama Group's comeback play, with over 230 tickets already sold

By Charlotte Lillywhite 29th Sep 2021

The Maldon Drama Group is looking forward to its return to the stage following lockdown, as it prepares to bring its production of hit comedy the Ladykillers to residents.

Residents are eagerly anticipating the group's comeback, too, as over 230 tickets have already been sold across the performances.

The group had been rehearsing a Shakespeare play when lockdown hit, but members decided that they wanted to make residents laugh with their first post-lockdown performance.

This led the group to decide on the Ladykillers - a fast-moving black comedy which was originally released as a film in 1955.

The group's version of the play is very close to the original, which tells the story of the sweet elderly Mrs Wilberforce who is pitted against the dapper Professor Marcus and his gang of thieves.

Posing as amateur musicians, the villains plot to involve the unwitting Mrs Wilberforce in their brilliantly conceived heist.

The show will run from Thursday 14 October to Saturday 16 October, and will begin at 7.45pm.

Doors will open at 7pm and there is a bar.

You can buy tickets to the show from the Maldon Drama Group website using the link here, or from the group's secretary on 07928 403991.

Stall tickets cost £10 each and balcony tickets cost £12.
