Residents 'at a loss' over GP shortages

FURIOUS Maldon residents say they are in 'desperate need' of doctors and medical services ahead of thousands of homes being built.
Maldon is at a "loss" for the NHS services which are "severely lacking", leaving anxious patients struggling to see health professionals, residents have said.
It comes as more than 2,000 homes are being built on the edges of Maldon and the town is growing in size. Worried residents raised concerns in the town centre.
Sally-Anne Power, 66, said: "It's so hard to see a doctor now, it's going to be just dreadful when we get all these new homes. Why isn't this being dealt with now? We are being let down so badly and are expected to put up with it. I know many people who want to fight this."
Former teacher Ray Potter, 71, called it "total madness." He insisted the NHS has cash available to boost services. The grandfather-of-six added: "We are paying the price for this, the leadership should hang their heads in shame. It's disgusting, and not on. It's about time this rubbish stopped and we get the health services we deserve."
In mid-2024 estimates by Maldon District Council states there were approximately 69,131 people in Maldon, the population has seen a 7.4% growth since the 2021 census. There are two doctors surgeries in central Maldon with one private surgery.
Construction is well underway, with some homes built off Limebrook Way, after plans were agreed for 1,000 new properties, while the Langford Road area will see 1,138 homes built.
Mother-of-three, Diana Potter, 41, also raised concerns about the "serious lack" of NHS services. She added: "I know people waiting weeks and weeks to see a doctor, it's not on. We all pay our rates towards the services but it's so subpar. We need two new surgeries at least, we get so much new housing without the health services."
Beverley Flowers, executive director of neighbourhood health at NHS Essex added: "We are working with local practices and partners to maximise available opportunities to develop our primary care infrastructure and ensure we can continue to meet the healthcare needs of local communities."
