A popular supermarket chain is set to open its first ever shop in Maldon.

Sainsbury's will be opening a new store near the Limebrook Way development, on the corner of Limebrook Way and Lancaster Avenue.

The store will be a Sainsbury's Local, and is expected to create around 20 new jobs for local people.

When the shop will open is yet to be confirmed.

A Sainsbury's spokesperson said: "We want to make good food joyful and accessible for everyone, every day, so we're delighted to confirm that we're planning to bring a brand-new Sainsbury's Local to Maldon.

"Our investment in the town will create jobs and a convenient new place for people to shop locally and once open, our store will work to become an integral part of the community it serves for years to come."

The supermarket giant submitted a licensing application to Maldon Council to allow the sale of alcohol at a new store earlier this month.

The store will be just north of the Limebrook primary school, which forms part of a new 1,000 home development off Limebrook Way.
