BOOKINGS are now open for the 2025 Saltmarsh Coast Walking Festival. This year's festival will combine both coast and countryside with over 35 guided walks to choose from. Plus, storytelling social media sensation James Lawrence, also known as 'Man About Country,' will be leading a walk around Goldhanger.

Named by the "Observer" newspaper as one of the top ten walking festivals and most recently featured in BBC Countryfile in an article showcasing 'Britain's Best Walking Festivals,' this is a great opportunity for you to explore the beautiful countryside, coastal scenery, and historic towns and villages of the Maldon District on foot. 

Cllr. James Burrell-Cook, Chair of Maldon District Tourism Group, said: "After a successful festival last year, as well as mini festivals in winter and spring, we are delighted to be hosting the Saltmarsh Walking Festival again this year in partnership with Maldon District Council.  

"Over the last two years, we've built a fantastic walking community, and we'd love to see it continue to grow. It's lovely to see familiar faces at each festival, which just goes to show how wonderful they are!"

Cllr Richard Siddall, Leader of Maldon District Council, said; "We are so proud that the BBC Countryfile programme has recognised our Festival as one of 'Britain's Best Walking Festivals.' This accolade follows its inclusion in the Observer newspaper's list of the ten best walking festivals for 2024.

"The event continues to offer both visitors and residents an excellent opportunity to experience the distinctive environment and heritage of our part of Essex.

"We sincerely appreciate the dedication of our partners and volunteers, whose efforts are essential to the success of this festival, and we look forward to welcoming you all to the festival this year."

The free walking festival is taking place from 26 September to 5 October 2025 and will take walkers on a number of routes around the district, showcasing some of the areas hidden gems.
