Seven people were arrested last week in Danbury in connection with the theft of cables.

The group were arrested Wednesday evening (July 31) after a grey Ford Focus, believed to have been stolen, was identified to be Danbury.

The vehicle was linked to a group believed to be responsible for the theft of cabling used for phones and the internet.

Officers from the Essex Police Operational Support Unit, the Road Crime Team and a Dog Unit supported by the National Police Air Service, followed the vehicle to Maldon Road.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Johnstone said: "Tenacious and quick work from officers in teams across the force secured a number of arrests in connection with theft of cables.

"Cable thefts can have a really big impact on communities as losing internet connectively affects everything from online shopping and accessing social media to working from home.

"We are steadfast in our commitment to arresting those involved in this type of criminal activity and bringing them before the courts."
