A teenager has been arrested and charged with burglary of a property in Witham.

Following a lengthy investigation by Essex Police detectives, a 17-year-old boy has been charged with burglary and taking a motor vehicle.

The charge relates to the burglary of a property on Chelmer Road on June 25 2023.

Essex Police investigations found that an unknown number of suspects forced entry and took items including the keys to a car.

After an investigation that included an extensive search of CCTV footage and information from the public, officers arrested the boy and charged him last Monday 4.

He has now been released on bail and is due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates Court in January.

Detective Sergeant Dan Smith said: "We understand the impact burglary can have on victims, and investigate every report as thoroughly as we can.

"I'm proud of the work all of the officers in this case have put into securing this charge, and I hope that this sends a message to our communities that we take every report of a burglary seriously."
