The popular children's author, Jacqueline Wilson, was invited to the town by Maldon Books' Olivia Rosenthall.

Maldon Books has announced 'An Afternoon with Jacqueline Wilson' at Maldon United Reformed Church on Saturday 8 October, from 2pm.

Tickets for the event hosted by the author of The Story of Tracy Beaker and Dustbin Baby sold out overnight.

It has been organised by Olivia Rosenthall, owner of Maldon Books.

Olivia told Nub News: "We are so excited to welcome Jacqueline Wilson to Maldon, especially as the 8 October is Bookshop Day, a very special day for bookshops everywhere."

The beloved children's author will be hosting a talk about Project Fairy, her 'captivating' new book about fairies, families, and friendship.

"I've always thought that it would be so magical to see Jacqueline - I would've loved to have met her when I was young." Olivia Rosenthall, Maldon Books

Olivia continued: "I loved Jacqueline's books growing up, and I know so many children and adults adore her too.

"I've always thought that it would be so magical to see Jacqueline - I would've loved to have met her when I was young.

"I still can't quite believe she'll be visiting us in a couple of months' time!"

The beloved author's official Twitter accounted tweeted about upcoming visit:

In 2020, during the release of her novel Love Frankie, Jacqueline publicly announced she was gay and has been living happily with her partner Trish since 2002.

Jacqueline's latest story focuses on girl called Mab, whose mum is obsessed with fairies. So much so, she even named Mab after the Fairy Queen.

Mab doesn't quite get it, but she knows fairies make her mum happy, especially after her dad left. When Mab's teacher gives her a book all about Victorian fairies, she's surprised to see the drawings inside are nothing like the sweet fairies she imagined.

But the biggest surprise of all is a tiny thing that tumbles out of the pages of the book.

Pre-signed copies of Project Fairy can be ordered here, while un-signed copies will be available to purchase on the day.

Those wishing to join the waiting list, to be informed when more tickets become available, should email Maldon Books.
