AN air ambulance crew treated a patient before they were taken to hospital following a rescue from a road accident in Maldon this afternoon (Monday, 23 November).

The crash on Heybridge Approach, close to the Langford roundabout, resulted in a car ending up in the large ditch to the side of the carriageway going towards the Blackwater Retail Park. The car was in collision with another vehicle before leaving the road.

The patient treated by the air ambulance paramedics was rescued from the car in the ditch.

The Ambulance Service confirmed that four people were assessed by paramedics, but only one was transferred to hospital.

A spokesperson for Essex Fire and Rescue Service said: "Firefighters rescued a person from their vehicle after we were called to a road traffic collision in Heybridge at 1:15pm.

"On arrival, crews reported that two vehicles had collided and one vehicle was in a precarious position over a ditch with a person trapped inside.

"Crews worked to rescue the person and bring the car back into a safe position by 3:11pm."

An Essex Police spokesperson added: "We were called shortly before 1.15pm to a collision involving a Jaguar F-Type and a Hyundai i30.

"Paramedics treated both drivers and enquiries remain ongoing."
