FIREFIGHTERS have been working over the weekend with the owners of the barn in Asheldham where a huge fire took hold last week.

Fire officers have continued to damp down and monitor the site with a view to handing it back over to the owners. Fire crews will continue visiting the scene of the blaze over the next few days to ensure the site remains safe.

The stack fire, which destroyed many tonnes of animal feed, began in the early hours of Wednesday (23 June). Crews from across the county were involved in fighting the fire, working tirelessly with staff at the site to save as much product as possible and to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby buildings. A nearby lake was utilised to help get as much water as possible to the scene.

A spokesperson for Essex Fire and Rescue Service said: "Officers will carry out an investigation into the cause when it is safe to do so."
