"Urgent concerns" were raised about the pilot Promenade Park events that took place earlier this summer, during a Maldon District Council (MDC) meeting last night (Thursday, 2 September).

Councillors noted that residents had raised concerns about noise levels during the events at the Prom this year - Soultasia, on 24 July, Katherine Jenkins' classical concert, on 25 July, and Fantasia, on 31 July.

Councillor Christopher Swain said: "For many local residents, the noise level was excessive and intrusive.

"Residential streets were jammed with visitors' cars blocking their accesses, while others blocked pavements to mobility scooters and pushchairs."

He said that additional "noise and disruption" when the arena was set up and dismantled had also disturbed residents.

Councillor Wendy Stamp, leader of MDC, acknowledged that the council had received complaints from residents about the events, but said that many people had called the two weekends of entertainment "fantastic".

She said that the "urgent concerns" raised will be discussed by MDC officers, who are set to meet in the coming weeks to discuss the events.

Richard Holmes, director of service delivery at MDC, said "We were looking at how to run these larger events in town - lots of mitigation was put in place, but there were a number of issues."

He added: "We will be meeting with the promoter, and obviously the issues that we've discovered will be taken into account in any decisions to hold that event again, or anything like that again in the town."

He said that these meetings would start next week.
