Maldon Fire Station has issued a warning about the dangers of entering the mud following a rescue at Maldon Promenade Park yesterday evening (June 23).

Two casualties had to be assisted by the local fire service and the South Woodham Coastguard Rescue Team after becoming trapped in the mud.

Rescue teams used specialist rescue sledges and mud rescue clothing to make contact with the casualties, before bringing them safely back to shore with rescue lines with the assistance of the Fire Service.

The incident, which occurred near to the statue of Byrhtnoth at low tide yesterday evening, has sparked Maldon Fire Station to warn visitors of the park of the dangers of entering the mud flats.

The station has encouraged visitors to contact 999 and ask for either the Coastguard or Fire Service, should they require assistance in an emergency.
