The organisers of Maldon Film Club are celebrating a successful 18th season, topped with a prestigious Arts and Culture Award from the Town Mayor, and are already looking forward to the 19th season in September.

Of the 19 films screened during 2022/23 season, including The Duke, The Rescue, West Side Story, Belfast, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, Parallel Mothers and The Father, 12 received an approval rating of over 70 per cent - with eight topping the 80 per cent mark.

Maldon Film Club is gearing for the new season, set to begin on Tuesday 5 September. The programme for the 2023/24 season, which is heavily influenced by members' votes, will cover a wide variety of themes with films from all over the world. Many of the 19 films to be screened have received Oscar awards and/or nominations and the programme offers something for everybody.

The Club, formed in 2005, meets at Maldon Town Hall on Tuesday evenings (from September to December) and then on Wednesdays from January until the end of the season in late May. Doors open at 7.15pm.

Wine and soft drinks are available from 7.30pm - unless otherwise stated, films commence at 8pm.

In March, the club won the Art and Culture Award at the Maldon Town Mayor Awards, "for providing much needed culture to our town, offering a multitude of films and entertainment throughout the year". John Salisbury accepted the award on behalf of the club.

From next season, an annual subscription will cost £30. This entitles members to free admission to all the season's 19 films - less than £1.60 per film. In addition, there are a limited number of places for junior members aged 16-18 in full time education and training at the reduced cost of £20. Members' guests pay just £4. Members will be asked to give their reaction to the films screened and help the committee compile the programme for the following season. Membership is open to all and new members will be made very welcome.

For further details, go to the Maldon Film Club website, visit the Maldon Visitor Information Centre (open from Tuesday to Saturday, 11am until 4pm) or phone 01621 869340 for membership enquiries. Contact John Salisbury with any questions, on 07905 971 608.
