Burnham Week kicks off on August 23, marking the start of an action-packed week of sailing and family fun on the historic river Crouch.

Burnham-on-Crouch is home to the historic East Coast Sailing Regatta, which draws visitors to the town each year.

Burnham Week officially begins on Friday, August 23 with a Welcome Reception for visiting crews at the Burnham Sailing Club.

From Saturday, the eight days of action and competitive sailing begins.

There will be daily races for cruises and day boats, as well as dinghy regattas over the weekend.

Visiting crews from across the UK will race through the River Crouch, with visitors invited to watch the racing and admire the fleets.

Most days, races will begin at the Pilehouse and continue down river past the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club, in view of the sea wall and the Quayside pubs.

Races will be started by the Committee Boat, recognisable by the large Burnham Week flag that will be displayed.

However, the excitement isn't just for those beyond the shoreline…

Quay Day - Monday, August 26

Quay Day will bring the action on Bank Holiday Monday, with Quayside Pubs and Food Venues offering activities, pop-up food venues, and competitions.

The Pirates on the Quay will wash up at the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club at 12pm, before heading down the Quayside for more shenanigans.

Arrive in Burnham in your best Pirate or Sailor Garb, and follow the Treasure Map to all the action around the town. Prizes will also be handed out for best dressed kids!

There will be a Pirate Parrot Trail around Burnham organised by the pirates, as well as pirate themed goody bags handed out at The Victoria Pub.

Meanwhile, The Anchor Pub will be hosting a whole range of Quay Day activities, with a local business market, live music and entertainment from 1pm, and even a Dinosaur Meet & Greet.

You can even have your fortune told! Visit Kardelian Moon on the Quayside for Tarot Card Readings.

Get peckish? There will also be Grub Hub at The Anchor, offering a selection of food outlets for both big and little bellies.

Other food outlets will also be open during the day, with Bistro on the Quay and The Victoria both offering meals.

Burnham Town Council are also holding a Picnic in the Park on Monday, a fun, family day with children's races and games.

There may also be a visit from the local Lifeboat Station crew, as well as fun and music from local DJ Peter May.

Other live music entertainment throughout the day will include Burnham's very own Pirate Band, Dan and Kev at The Anchor, The Swashbuckles, and an unmissable afterparty at The Victoria from 6.30pm!

The Final Day - Saturday, August 31

On Saturday, August 31 the final races will take place, followed by prize giving at The Royal Burnham Yacht Club.

The event will be culminated by the Burnham Week Firework display, for viewing all along the Quayside.

This year's Burnham Week is sponsored by the Allen Brothers, Burnham Yacht Harbour, Burgess, Church & Hawes, Dewhirst, East Coast Kit, Fambridge Yacht Haven, Holt, LAS Solicitors, Lonton & Gray, Ramsey Island Brewery, and The Old Salt Loft.
