Poll predictions suggest that Maldon MP Sir John Whittingdale will hold his seat at the General Election on Thursday, July 4 – but by a significantly reduced majority.

The latest poll released by YouGov has projected a 44.6% vote share for the Conservatives in Maldon, a 27% drop in the share received in the 2019 election.

The poll, last updated on June 13, predicts Labour will receive a 28.9% share, followed by Reform with 14%, Liberal Democrats with 7.2%, and the Green Party with 4.5% in July's vote.

It would mean the lowest vote share incumbent MP Sir John Whittingdale has received since taking over in 1992.

This reflects a trend nationally, with predictions suggesting the Conservatives will lose over 200 seats, with around 18% of people saying they will vote Conservative.

Sir John polled 36,304 votes in 2019, receiving a 72% share of the vote.

It was a close run for second, with Labour's Stephen Capper getting 6,263 (12.4%) and the Lib Dems' Colin Baldy 5,990 (11.9%).

Janet Band for the Greens got 1,851 (3.7%).
