The latest poll predictions by YouGov have outlined a further 7.9% drop in vote share for the Conservatives since June 13, with Reform's share doubling in the same timeframe.

In a poll updated on June 13, the Conservative Party were predicted to hold the seat in Maldon with a 44.6% majority - the lowest vote share incumbent MP Sir John Whittingdale has received since taking over in 1992.

The latest poll, updated on June 27, predicts the Conservatives will now take only 35.7% of votes, followed by Reform UK, which has doubled to take 28.1% of the votes in just two weeks.

This is a steep drop in Conservative votes, as Sir John polled 36,304 votes in 2019, receiving a 72% share.

Labour follows Reform with a 22.6% predicted share, followed by the Liberal Democrats with 8.5% and the Green Party with 4.1%.

The Reform UK candidate, Pamela Walford, told Nub News she has felt "welcomed" by Maldon residents.

Reform UK's policies include a freeze on 'non-essential' immigration, scrapping net zero targets, tax cuts for small businesses, and leaving the European Convention on Human Rights.

However, Conservative MP John Whittingdale told Maldon Nub News that residents should think twice before voting for Reform: "I know there are some people who are unhappy with the performance of the Conservative government.

"We haven't got everything right, I absolutely accept that, but Reform is a protest vehicle, they are not going to win seats, but what they are going to do is take Conservative votes.

"Overwhelmingly Reform voters are previous Conservative voters. Voting for Reform will result in Keir Starmer gaining a much bigger majority in parliament than he would otherwise - and that does worry me."

Pamela Walford of Reform UK was met with backlash at Maldon's hustings event after her comment about the improper use of food banks.
