Around 10 hours of heavy snow showers with temperatures well below freezing are expected across Maldon district from this afternoon (Monday, 8 February).

While the Maldon area escaped with little more than a light dusting of snow yesterday, despite the Met Office amber weather warning, heavy snow showers and freezing temperatures are now predicted from 4pm this afternoon until 2am tomorrow.

Maldon MP John Whittingdale has welcomed news that the Covid infection rate for Maldon district has now dropped to 195.6 per 100,000 - and has urged others without symptoms who cannot stay at home to follow his example and take a test at the West Maldon Community Centre.

Mr Whittingdale said: "It is very welcome news that the number of Covid cases in Maldon continues to fall with 111 testing positive in the last seven days, bringing the rate per 100,000 down to 195.6.

Essex Fire and Rescue Service has issued warning over Storm Darcy

Essex Fire and Rescue Service and the RNLI have issued warnings and safety advice for residents in advance of Storm Darcy - with Met Office amber warnings for snow and ice for Maldon district now extended through to Monday.

The snow and wind storm is expected to bring heavy snow, ice, gales and freezing temperatures to an area of the east coastline including Maldon district from 11pm tonight (Saturday, 6 February) through until 9am on Monday. There is a Met Office amber weather warning in place for the area from 4am tomorrow. The cold conditions are expected to last through to Wednesday and Met Office yellow warnings for snow and ice currently remain in place until then.

Plans to build a holiday park including 70 new lodges, the redevelopment of a clubhouse and a new golf academy at Woodham Walter will come before Maldon District Council this week.

Members of the council's North West Area Planning Committee will decide on the application for the development at The Warren Estate on Wednesday, 10 February. The council's planning officers have recommended refusal.
