THE Covid-19 infection rate has dropped by more than 10 per 100,000 in Maldon district in the latest figures released by Essex County Council.

The county council currently releases a new county summary of the statistics every Thursday afternoon, comparing the seven days up until the previous Thursday with the seven days before that. The reporting gap of one week is to help ensure accuracy of the figures.

Councillor Wendy Stamp, the new Leader of Maldon District Council

MALDON District Council selected a new leader at its Statutory Annual Meeting this evening (Thursday, 5 November) – Independent Councillor Wendy Stamp.

The meeting was still ongoing at the point of publication as a debate about how many seats on council committees members of each political group would be allocated. This is proving a problematic issue to resolve, due to the formation of the Democratic Alliance group, made up of four Conservative councillors, two days ago.

Maldon district's community volunteers have again made themselves ready to respond to those who need them as England enters a second national lockdown today (Thursday, 5 November).

Sarah Troop, director of Maldon District Community Volunteer Service (CVS), told Maldon Nub News this afternoon that she would like to reassure all those residents who need help with shopping and prescriptions that 45 of the volunteers who stepped forward the first time round have already signed up to help again.

Maldon High Street: this list tells you what could still be open in this second national lockdown

THIS second national lockdown is very different to the first and the streets of Maldon district look and feel much busier than they did in the spring.

So here's a list of some different types of shops that are and are not allowed to open as usual. In addition, even at shops that are not allowed to open to customers, click and collect services can still be in place. However, it is important to bear in mind that some businesses may have decided not to open, so it's always best to double check before you go.

AS England enters the first day of the new four-week national lockdown, here's some more information on what is and isn't available or open for Maldon district residents from today (Thursday, 5 November).

Promenade Park: The Prom remains open except for the Petting Zoo, Adventure Golf and Museum in the Park, which are all now closed until lockdown ends. Unlike in the previous lockdown, there is no time limit on outdoor exercise.
