A POET who has strong links to Maldon is writing her life story in three screen plays – for which she already has a director and producer.

Cassandra Swan, who still lives in the district in Tollesbury, is an internationally acclaimed poet who has written award-winning epic poems. Her other current projects include work with ballet choreographers to produce ballets based on two of her poems – one about the poet Sylvia Plath and the other a tribute to Russian poet Vladimir Mayakovsky.

With its grand exterior and dated yet somehow comforting interior - perhaps rather like the fifties hospital featured in popular TV series 'Call the Midwife' – any visitor could be forgiven for thinking that St Peter's, in Spital Road, had always been a hospital.

Police want to know what Maldon people feel about road safety and road policing on the area's roads

PEOPLE who live, work and travel in Maldon district are being asked to make their views known on the future of policing the county's roads.

The Government is currently reviewing roads policing and what the future of traffic law enforcement may look like. As part of this review, the Department for Transport is trying to find out what makes a difference and how resources can be used most effectively.

St Peter's Hospital, Maldon

MALDON health hub, first promised to residents more than 20 years ago, has a new target date for delivery of the first phase of the project – 2024.

The first part of the plan to build the hub, originally described as "a new community hospital" for the area, will be to provide new "fit for purpose" premises for Blackwater Medical Centre. In 2016, the target date for the opening of the new facility was 2020.

Visitors catching up over a socially-distanced coffee this week

NEW socially-distanced community coffee mornings launched in Maldon this week will be able to continue, despite the latest Covid-19 restrictions.

The first Safe Space coffee morning - put on to help provide some social contact for those who may have felt isolated or trapped in lockdown - was held in the Town Hall, Market Hill, yesterday (Wednesday, 9 September) just hours after the new 'rule of six' for social gatherings was announced. Under the new rules, social gatherings of more than six people indoors or outdoors will be illegal from Monday (14 September).
