The following is a letter from Conservative Councillor Elaine Bamford, leader of the Conservative group and leader of the opposition at Maldon District Council.

Dear Readers,

Although at the annual meeting on 5 November our Conservative administration at Maldon District Council was lost to the Independents, we are determined to go positively forward in opposition to ensure the best services continue for the benefit of all communities of the district.

These are extraordinary times and extra effort has to be given to assist the vulnerable, struggling businesses and to ensure those who need help whether it be mentally, and physically or financially are not neglected.

Please be assured that influencing the experienced officers at Maldon District Council in dealing with priorities in this pandemic can still be achieved in opposition.

We realise this will be disappointing for those who voted Conservative at the last election. The negative press surrounding Conservative members who have left the Conservative Group and Party, even though you elected them as a Conservative, has overshadowed the good work our dedicated team have and will continue to do.
