Local Veteran Ron Baker passed away peacefully this weekend.

Ron Baker RM, a D-Day Veteran of Sword Beach, celebrated his 100th birthday this Summer.

A spokesperson from the Maldon & Heybridge Royal British Legion told Nub News: "It is with great sadness that I need to inform you that Ron Baker RM slipped away peacefully on Saturday 23 November 2024, having had a bowl of porridge and a cup of tea at 10am.

"He had been surrounded by family leading up to this and was very settled despite his failing health."

Funeral details will be released by the Maldon & Heybridge Royal British Legion when they become available.

Our thoughts are with Ron's friends and family at this time.
