Quest Motors at Wycke Hill Business Park, Maldon

MALDON District Council (MDC) has received a planning application for the site currently occupied by Quest Motors.

The motor dealership, which had a premises in Maldon for close to 100 years - previously in the High Street and from 2007 at Wycke Hill Business Park - recently announced that it would be leaving Wycke Hill at the end of May to continue business online and at the firm's Braintree site.

MID Essex health chiefs are reminding all those who are aged over 40 that they can now come forward to receive their first Covid-19 vaccine – and don't need to wait to be called.

Anyone aged 40-plus who hasn't yet received an appointment should call either 119 or their GP to book. Alternatively, they can visit the NHS website using the link here to make their appointment.

A cherry tree has been planted at Broomfield Hospital to remember Captain Sir Tom Moore on what would have been his 101st birthday (Friday, 30 April).

The tree at Broomfield was planted in the newly-opened garden of remembrance, which was also funded by monies from the Captain Sir Tom Moore fund, and provides a dedicated quiet space for staff to visit and remember colleagues.

The Met Office has issued a weather warning for wind across the Maldon district area from midday on Bank Holiday Monday (3 May) through to 9am on Tuesday morning.

The yellow warning indicates that "disruptive" winds are likely to develop across an area of the South and East coastline that includes the Dengie Peninsula, Maldon and stretches up to Suffolk.

THE air ambulance charity serving Maldon and the surrounding villages is asking bikers to help raise funds by taking on a 60-plus miles challenge.

Essex & Herts Air Ambulance (EHAAT) is asking motorcyclists to register and take on one of four routes across the county, all of at least 60 miles, as part of the 'I Did It My Way Challenge' - which was held for the first time last year.

Lucy Hutchings' inspirational design for the RHS Hampton Court show

A POPULAR local garden centre is supporting Suffolk-based designer and author Lucy Hutchings with her edible allotment garden design for the RHS Hampton Court Garden Festival in July.

The plants, including chillies, heirloom tomatoes and edible flowers like nasturtium, are being grown and nurtured in the production nursery at Perrywood Garden Centre in Tiptree.

MALDON District Council has decided to return to a full schedule of face-to-face meetings following the Government's decision not to renew the pandemic legislation allowing them to be held remotely.

However, at the Extraordinary Meeting of the full council debating the issue last night (Thursday, 29 April) one councillor made clear that he felt the Covid-safety measures agreed to by the members were against the Nuremberg Code.
