Maldon Society meeting: 'Chelmer Blackwater Reserve CIC', with Patrick Ellum and Simon Wood
Cygnet Room, The Swan Hotel, 73 High St, Maldon CM9 5EP
Community Events
UNTIL Thursday 3rd November
The monthly Maldon Society meetings are held in the Cygnet Room behind the Swan Hotel, Maldon High Street.
The Chelmer Blackwater Reserve Community Interest Company is undertaking a 'major' programme to restore the 'unique wildlife habitat' close to Maldon's Tesco Extra store.
The Chelmer Blackwater Reserve is a unique area which is bordered to the south by the tidal river Chelmer and to the north by the Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation.
The area has been saved from development and the non profit community interest company aims to manage and improve it as a wildlife reserve with public access. The site has historical significance and parts have probably been undisturbed for decades, making it the perfect location for the creation of the Reserve.
A variety of birds, amphibians, reptiles and mammals frequent the site, as well as many invertebrates.
The company has plans for the future and are looking for volunteers to help on work days and with management roles as well as financial support from both businesses and individuals.
- Doors open at 6.30pm and the meeting will start at 7pm.
- Drinks may be bought from the bar and brought to the Cygnet Room.
- A raffle will be held to help raise funds and visitors will be requested to give a donation while members have free entry.
It is essential that anyone wishing to come along pre-registers their interest either by email to [email protected]. Our meetings are now becoming extremely popular and this has resulted in the maximum number of attendees being reached at our recent meetings.
